During summer in Akigawa, there’s one dessert spot that’s almost impossible to get into.

That’s “Misegura Hisamori,” famous for its shaved ice.

The place itself is part of a traditional Japanese property, and the nearby Morita residence is even registered as a national cultural asset.

There’s also a beautiful gate and garden right next to the shop that you can take a look at.

Right next door is a high-end Japanese restaurant, giving the whole area a very refined atmosphere.

Honestly, I came here because of a friend—and I couldn’t understand paying around 2,000 yen for shaved ice.

Inside, you can see a beautiful inner garden.

The stone flooring adds a really unique and calm feeling.

At this point, I was already thinking… I could live here. Maybe build a small open-air bath in this garden.

And then it arrived.

Wait… it’s HUGE.

I added soft serve ice cream and chose kumquat syrup.

Both were extra options, which made it even more expensive.

At this point, I was thinking—this must be one of those “Instagram-only” desserts.

But then…

It was actually amazing.

Surprisingly good.

I even wanted another one.

I used to think shaved ice made from regular ice shouldn’t cost this much.

Unlike Taiwanese shaved ice, where the ice itself is flavored.

But this completely changed my mind.

The texture, the way it’s shaved, and especially the syrup—it all works perfectly.

Even the combination of shaved ice and soft serve, which I used to think was pointless…

turns out to be delicious when mixed together.

My prejudice was completely destroyed.

The hot matcha served alongside helps reset your palate.

And if you pour the syrup from the kuzukiri onto the ice cream and mix it…

Game over.

This place wins completely.
