Whenever the annual gourmet event season arrives, Amalfi Shichirigahama Main Restaurant becomes one of my favorite destinations.
Located along the beautiful Shichirigahama coastline near Kamakura, this restaurant is famous not only for Italian cuisine but also for its spectacular ocean views.
My biggest recommendation is simple: arrive before sunset.
During winter, around 5:00 PM is ideal. Once the sun disappears below the horizon, the ocean view becomes difficult to appreciate, and you’ll miss one of the restaurant’s greatest attractions.
The restaurant features both first and second-floor dining areas, with many seats offering views of the sea.
On this particular evening, I arrived around sunset with a work colleague who was completely exhausted from work. Honestly, this restaurant is perfect for those long conversations after a busy week.
I even ordered a drink despite rarely drinking alcohol myself. Somehow, the atmosphere encourages it.

The course began with a seasonal appetizer-style soup.
According to the menu, it featured celeriac and chestnut, but the dish also included Kamakura vegetables, shrimp, and scallops. The creamy sauce felt somewhere between a soup and a sophisticated appetizer.
While enjoying the ocean view, it was a wonderful way to start the meal.
Visually, the dish was beautiful, and perhaps because of the scenery and the drink, everything felt just a little more relaxing.
Next came freshly baked bread.
Simple, but satisfying.
Then came a dish featuring truffle and house-made pancetta, adding a rich and aromatic element to the course.

The seafood course featured Kinmedai (golden eye snapper) served in an acqua pazza style.
The skin was perfectly crisp, something I’ve come to expect from Amalfi. Their fish dishes are consistently impressive, and this one was no exception.
The main meat course followed.
Tender beef accompanied by foie gras and a flavorful sauce.
What surprised me most was how soft the meat was. It practically melted with each bite.
A grilled daikon radish steak accompanied the dish, and although it may sound unusual, it paired remarkably well with both the meat and sauce.
As the meal progressed, I found myself thinking about dessert.
Oddly enough, because I had barely eaten earlier in the day, the course felt lighter than expected.
Just as dessert arrived, candles were lit across the restaurant.
The timing was perfect.
Outside, the sky shifted into deep twilight colors, while inside the warm candlelight created an entirely different atmosphere.
Coffee or tea is offered with dessert, allowing guests to finish the meal at a relaxed pace.
Looking back, this wasn’t just a dinner.
It was one of those evenings where the combination of ocean views, sunset colors, Italian cuisine, and good conversation creates a memorable travel experience.
For visitors exploring Kamakura and Shichirigahama, Amalfi Main Restaurant remains one of the area’s most iconic dining destinations.
