Tsukiji is famous for seafood, but I wasn’t expecting to find one of the area’s busiest oyster ramen shops at 2:00 AM.

After seeing countless social media posts about Kaki to Kai Tsukiji, I finally decided to visit. What surprised me most wasn’t the ramen—it was the crowd. Even in the middle of the night, the restaurant was nearly full.

The location suddenly made sense. The shop operates from early morning until late at night, attracting everyone from seafood lovers and tourists to office workers finishing a long night out in nearby Tsukiji and Ginza.

Inside, the restaurant features a long counter-style layout. The atmosphere feels modern yet uniquely Japanese. One detail I loved was the oyster-shaped lighting fixtures hanging above the counter. Another memorable touch was the tatami-covered countertop, which gave the entire space a warm and relaxing feeling.

It felt surprisingly comfortable, and I imagine international visitors would enjoy the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Trays are provided for every guest, probably to keep spills off the tatami surface.

Then came the main event.

The presentation immediately looked designed for social media. The ramen arrives beautifully arranged, making it easy to understand why it appears so frequently online.

The restaurant’s signature oyster rice is served alongside the ramen. At first bite, I honestly thought the oyster flavor was almost too intense. It reminded me of a dish that doesn’t hold back at all.

However, as I continued eating, my palate adjusted and I began appreciating the richness rather than feeling overwhelmed by it.

The oyster rice becomes especially delicious when mixed with the soup. Adding seaweed creates an even better balance of flavors.

The ramen itself can best be described as bold and powerful. Compared to another famous oyster ramen restaurant in Nakano called ただいま変身中, the difference is quite interesting.

That restaurant feels like an elegant oyster bar transformed into ramen. Kaki to Kai Tsukiji feels more like a fishing port in a bowl. The oyster flavor is stronger, rougher, and more direct.

Neither style is necessarily better. They simply target different tastes.

If you’re an oyster enthusiast looking for a deep, concentrated seafood experience, you’ll probably love this place. If you’re only mildly interested in oysters or sensitive to strong seafood flavors, the oyster ramen may feel overwhelming.

Fortunately, the restaurant also offers clam-based ramen, which may be a safer choice for first-time visitors.

Prices are slightly higher than average, although that may partly be due to the late-night operating hours and premium seafood ingredients.

Would I visit again?

Absolutely.

That said, considering how crowded it was at 2:00 AM, I can only imagine how busy it gets during peak hours.
